John Madden is an English film, television, theater and radio director. He debuted in the BBC television series Playhouse. He is best known for directing the Academy Award for best Picture winning film Shakespeare in Love. His other films include The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and its sequel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

John Maden is a British director who was born in Portsmouth in 1949. He began his directorial debut in 1982 with the series BBC2 Playhouse, and presented many other works such as Shakespeare in Love (1998), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. He won a Scottish BAFTA award for a television episode Truth or Dare in the TV series Screen One.
