Italian writer, director, and producer born on 7 September 1940 in Rome, Italy. He began his career as a film critic but decided to pursue a career in screenwriting. His work was influential in the horror genre in the 1970s and 1980s, specifically a subgenre called giallo. His most notable works include Deep Red (1975), The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970), Phenomena (1980), and Opera (1987).
