Matthew McConaughey is an American actor and writer. He was born on the 4th of November 1969 in Texas. He is of Scottish, English, Irish, German and Swedish descent. His father, James Donald McConaughey owned a gas station in which both of Matthew’s brothers worked. However, he refused to work there and went on to live one year in Australia, where he spent most of his day washing dishes. He graduated from high school in 1988 and went on to study at the University of Texas in Austin. At first, he wanted to study law but eventually decided to switch to film. He started his career with student films in 1991 and then directed Chicano Chariot. In 1993, he acted in Dazed and Confused. In the early 2000s, he did many romantic comedies, such as The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days alongside Kate Hudson. In 2011, he starred in The Lincoln Lawyer. Two years later he acted in The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. In the same year, he was the lead actor in Dallas Buyers Club, for which he won an Oscar.
