He is a South African actor and producer who was born on June 16, 1962 in Pretoria, South Africa. He is of African, German, Dutch, Danish, and French origins. He began his acting career in the series Harmonie (1982). He's best known for playing Imhotep in The Mummy (1999) and its sequel in 2001. His other credits include Blood Diamond, Hard Target, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
