An American director born on March 13, 1898 in Sacramento, California. He co-directed Behind the Make-Up (1930), and his first film was Heritage of the Desert (1932). He was known for The Trail of the Lonesome Pine, How the West Was Won, The Sons of Katie Elder, and True Grit. He died on February 11, 1985 in Hollywood.
