Frank Romer Pierson was an American writer, director, and producer born on 12 May 1925 in Chappaqua, New York. He began his career in the early 1960s by writing episodes for several TV series. His most notable works include Cool Hand Luke (1967), Mad Men (2009-2012), and Presumed Innocent (1990). He won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Dog Day Afternoon (1975). He passed away on 22 July 2012 in California, at age 87.
