American actor born on 29 December 1938 in Yonkers, New York. He started his acting career in the early 60s as a television actor, then came his first big success with Midnight Cowboy (1969). His breakthrough, however, was his performance in Deliverance (1972) followed by his role on Coming Home (1978), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Leading Actor as well as a Golden Globe. He is a four-time Oscar nominee, including Best Supporting Actor for his role on Ali (2002). He was married two times and has two children, James Haven and Angelina Jolie.
