A British author, born in County Durham, England, to a family of miners. He traveled to the United States for a few years, then returned to Britain, worked in the insurance field, and graduated from the University of Manchester in 1951. He then lived in France for a year, where he worked as an English teacher. He's known for The Reckoning (2003). He died in Perugia, Umbria, Italy.
