American writer and director born on July 13, 1957 in Palm Springs, California. He studied at the University of San Diego High School. He began writing for Rolling Stone magazine aged 15 years old. His directorial debut was Say Anything (1989). He's known for Jerry Maguire (1996), Singles (1992) and Vanilla Sky (2001). He won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Almost Famous (2000)
