An American director, producer, and writer, born on December 8, 1916, in New York. He started his career by directing some short films such as Flicker Flashbacks No. 1, Series 1 (1943), and Memo for Joe (1944). He directed his first feature film in 1947, entitled Banjo. He won an Academy Award in 1948 for his documentary film, Design for Death. He died on March 25, 2006, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California.
