A Canadian-American producer, writer, and director, born in Canada to film director Daniel Petrie and producer and actress Dorothea Petrie. He attended Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. He also attended the University of Redlands in California, where he studied psychology and creative writing. He served as President of the Writers Guild of America from 1997 till 1999. Some of his credits include Beverly Hills Cop (1984) and The Big Easy (1986).
