She is a British novelist, born on February 5, 1942 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. She studied at Scarborough Convent School, where her passion for theater and literature began at that time. She wrote her first novel, The Enclosure when she was 15 which was criticized by the British Daily Mail. Novels such as A Change for the Better, I'm the King of the Castle, and The Albatross were written and published between 1968 and 1974. She is known for The Woman in Black (2012), The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (2014), and The Small Hand (Ghost Story) (2019). She married Shakespeare scholar Stanley Wells, and has 2 daughters. Hill founded her own publishing company, Long Barn Books.
