A Hong Kong actor, born in Lamma Island, Hong Kong. He is best known in Asia and the West for A Better Tomorrow series of films throughout the 1980s, as well as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Dragonball Evolution (2009), The Replacement Killers (1998), and Confucius (2010). He won the Hong Kong Film Festival Award for Best Actor in 1988 for his role in the film City on Fire (1987) and the same award in 1990 for his role in the film All About Ah-Long (1989). He also won the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor for his role in the film An Autumn's Tale (1987).
