A South African actor, author and producer, born November 9, 1934, Cape Town, South Africa. He debuted by writing one of the episodes of the series Playdate (1961). He is known for his roles in The Dresser, The Pianist, and The Diving Bell. He won an Oscar for Best Screenplay in 2003 for The Pianist. He died on September 8, 2020, Sussex, United Kingdom.
