An American author and journalist, born in Virginia, United States. He grew up in military base areas in Florida, San Diego, California, and Frankfurt, Germany. He studied philosophy at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, graduating in 1975. He also earned a master's degree in English in 1981. He became a staff writer for Commonwealth Magazine from 1981 to 1984. He began working for The Virginian-Pilot in 1984. Also, he worked for Sports Illustrated magazine from 1988 until 1993. He's known for Rise and Walk: The Dennis Byrd Story (1994).
