An American director, writer, and actor, born in Brooklyn, New York, United States. He began acting in 1952, through the film Fear and Desire. His credits include An Unmarried Woman (1978) and Willie & Phil (1980). He was nominated for five Oscars. He died on 30 June 2014 in Beverly Grove, Los Angeles, California, USA.
