  • French director, writer and producer, Luc Besson, was born in Paris to parents who worked as diving instructors and had a diving club, which highly affected his childhood and made...Read more him want to become a marine biologist. Besson spent most of his youth traveling with his parents to various resorts in Italy, Yugoslavia and Greece. By the age of ten, his parents settled back in France before shortly getting divorced. At 17, Besson had a diving accident which left him unable to dive anymore. He then turned to writing which he fell in love with along with filming, and decided to try working on a film through a friend of his who knew a man who worked as a third assistant for short movies. From here on, Besson started pursuing his career at a young age and started writing short stories to escape boredom. One such story later became the famous movie, The Fifth Element, which was influenced by the French comic books he read as a child. Besson produced many action films that have received wide public acclaim such as Taxi, The Transporter, Nikita and Leon: The Professional.
