A South Korean director and actor. He studied art in Paris and then returned to Korea to begin his film career as a screenwriter. His first directorial experience came with the film Crocodile (1996). His films include Samaritan Girl (2004), which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin...Read more Film Festival in 2004, and Arirang (2011), which won the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. His film Pieta (2012) also won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
