A British writer, actor, and producer, born on October 2, 1904 in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom. After studying at Balliol College, Oxford, he worked for four years as an assistant editor at The Times. His most notable works are The Fallen Idol, The Third Man, The End of the Affair, and The Quiet American. He died on April 3, 1991 in Corso, Vaud, Switzerland.
