An American actor, born in Charlotteville, Virginia, USA. His family moved to Ohio when he was a child. His talent began to surface when he was a teenager and he joined a group of actors nicknamed the Brat Pack that included Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, and Judd Nelson. He had a setback due to a sex scandal, but he made a comeback in 1990. His most important works include St. Elmo's Fire (1985), The Outsiders (1983), Wayne's World (1992), and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999). He was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama for the series The West Wing as well as an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2001 for the same role. He married Sheryl Berkoff, and they have two children, including actor John Owen Lowe.
