An American actor, writer, producer, and puppeteer, born in Greenville, Mississippi. He moved with his family to Hyattsville, Maryland, and attended Northwestern High School there, and then attended the University of Maryland College Park, and graduated in 1960. Among the first puppets he created was Kermit the Frog, then he made several others, and started showing those puppets in stage performances, until they became famous all over the world, as they later appeared in films.
