An American screenwriter and lawyer, born in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. He attended the Boston Latin School, then The Phillips Exeter Academy before graduating summa cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1952. He was also admitted to the Massachusetts Bar Association and went to work at a Boston law firm. He's known for The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) and Hit! (1973).
