Malcolm McDowell is a British actor from Leeds. His father was an alcoholic who ran a pub that eventually went bankrupt. At age 11, he was shipped off to boarding school, where he was beaten for his "waywardness." Taking an interest in acting, he attended the London Academy of Music and Art. McDowell got his first major role in Lindsay Anderson's "If..." (1968), which made him a star but only in Britain. He played Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" (1971), which was the first of many roles he would play as the psychopathic villain. He moved to the United States in the late 1970s. "Time After Time" (1979) was his first American film. McDowell struggled with alcohol and cocaine addictions throughout the 1980s, and his work suffered from it. His career picked up in the 1990s, with more villainous roles in "Star Trek: Generations" (1994) and a number of other films. He had a recurring role on the television series "Entourage" and "Heroes." He also acted in the Oscar winner for Best Picture "The Artist" (2011). The British veteran, who now resides in Los Angeles, has acted in over 100 films.
