English director and producer born on 17 June 1957 in Bristol, England. She began her career in BBC Television Drama, after which she turned to directing numerous plays and operas. Her works include Mamma Mia! (2008), The Iron Lady (2011), and Herself (2020).

  • Phyllida Lloyd is a British director who was born on the 17th of June 1957. After graduating from Birmingham University in 1979, she spent five years working in BBC Television...Read more Drama. In 1991 she made her debut with a play by Thomas Shadwell "The Virtuoso". She followed that with a successful production of the rarely-seen "Artists and Admirers" by Alexander Ostrovsky. At the same year she made her debut at the Royal Court Theatre with "Six Degrees of Separation" and at the Royal National Theatre with "Pericles". As an opera director she presented such a number of masterpiece: "L'Etoile" by Chabrier,"La Boheme", "Gloriana", "Dialogues of the Carmelites", "Macbeth" and "The Handmaid's Tale". Mentioning her list of remarkable work never let go of: "The Way of the World", "What the Butler Saw", "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" and "The Duchess of Malfi" Recently she took out "The Iron Lady" for the famous actress Meryl Streep which was released in December 2011. In 2006 she was awarded an honorary degree by Bristol University and she was appointed as "Commander of the Order of the British Empire" (CBE) in 2010.
