An American playwright and screenwriter, born on March 14, 1916, in Wharton, Texas, USA. He began his career as a writer in 1951 by writing an episode of The Gabby Hayes Show. His most notable films include To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), and Tender Mercies (1983). He died on March 4, 2009, in Hartford, Connecticut, USA.
