Joaquim de Almeida is a Portuguese actor, born in Lisbon on the 15th of March 1957. From an early age, he showed signs that his future would be far away from his family business. At the age of eighteen and after enrolling in theater classes for two consecutive years at the Lisbon Technical Institute,which later closed during the revolution, Joaquim left Portugal and headed to Austria to continue his studies. He relocated to New York in 1976, and debuted in 1981 with the movie The Soldier, after which he continued his roles in the films: Beyond the Limit (1983), Good Morning Babylon (1987), as well as Downsizing (2017).
