An American politician, lawyer, and writer of Polish descent, born in the Bronx, New York City. In 1943, he was drafted into the United States Army and won several medals. He studied at the New York University School of Law. He was a member of the US Democratic Party, a political analyst, a film critic, and a TV personality. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977 and was Mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. He appeared as himself in several programs and documentaries and acted in several films, most notably City Hall, We Own the Night, and Run for Cover. He died on February 1, 2013, in Manhattan, New York City, USA, due to congestive heart failure.
