Director, producer, screenwriter, and film editor born in Hong Kong on 12 January 1949. He studied film and television directing at the California School of Arts in Oakland, California. His works include Smoke (1995), Anywhere But Here (1999), Because of Win-Dixie (2005) and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (2011).
