A Mexican director, writer and producer, born in Mexico City. He is the first Mexican director to be nominated for an Oscar. He is also the first Mexican director to receive the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. His notable works include Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), and Babel (2006), the latter of which earned him two Oscar nominations.
