Tyler Perry is an African American director, actor, screenwriter, playwright, producer and author. Perry began his career writing plays. He is best known for performing in drag the Madea character he created. Madea has appeared in a number of his films, most notably Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005) and Madea's Family Reunion (2006). Perry is often criticized for relying on and perpetuating negative racial stereotypes. Despite this, Perry has churned out a number of box office hits. In 2011, Forbes magazine named him the highest paid in entertainment, earning $130 million between May 2010 and 2011.
