A Spanish director, screenwriter, and producer, born in Madrid, Spain, and studied at the Faculty of Information Sciences in Madrid. He is the brother of writer and director David Trueba. He began working in film criticism in newspapers, and in 1985 he achieved fame by directing his comedy film Sé infiel y no mires con quién. In 1988, he headed the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, which awards the Goya Awards. In 1993, his film Belle Epoque won nine Goya Awards, including Best Film and Best Director. The film also won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His other credits include The Girl of Your Dreams (1998), which won seven Goya Awards.
