Chinese-American writer, born on November 16, 1958, in Shanghai, China. She holds a bachelor's degree in literature from Wuhan University and a Master's in Fine Arts in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago. Yan got married to her second husband Lawrence Walker in Los Angeles. She is known for The Flowers of War (2011), Youth (2017), and Forever Enthralled (2008).
