Italian producer, photographer, scriptwriter and director, born in Eritrea in 1964. At the age of thirteen, he was transferred to Italy by a war plane to be safe there, leaving his parents behind in Eritrea. After spending his youth between Rome and Istanbul, he moved at the age of twenty to New York to study at the Film School at New York University. He made his debut with the documentary film Boatman, that participated in several festivals. His other works, include: El Sicario, Room 164 (2010), and Fuocoammare (Fire at Sea) (2016).
