A Scottish-British actor, producer, and director. He was born in Dundee, Scotland, UK on 1 June 1946. He graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. He is best known for his performance as King Lear. His works include Manhunter, Adaptation, X2: X-Men United, and Troy.
