A Filipino director, born in San Fernando, Philippines. His films include The Masseur (2005) and Kinatay, which won the Best Director Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. In 2014, the French government awarded him the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. In 2009, his film Lola won Best Feature Film at Dubai International Film Festival.
