A Canadian film and television writer, producer, and director, born in Edmonton, Canada. She graduated from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Alberta and worked as a computer programmer before moving abroad. Her years of traveling inspired her to become a storyteller, and when she returned, she joined a group of old friends to form a film collective. From 1975 to 1985, she worked at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), where she directed her first feature film, A War Story (1981). Among her credits are Bye Bye Blues (1989), Marine Life (2000) and Knockout (2011).
