American director, writer, director of photography, producer, and editor, born in Evanston, Illinois, United States. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1994 and won the award honorably in 2013. His directing works include Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back (1967), The War Room (1993), and Unlocking the Cage (2016). He died on August 1, 2019, in Sag Harbor, New York, United States.
