A Colombian writer, born on March 6, 1927, in Aracataca, Colombia. He is considered one of the most renowned 20th-century authors in the Spanish language. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. His most notable work includes One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. His work has been adapted into films, such as Love in the Time of Cholera (2007). He also wrote several screenplays, such as Presage (1974), The Year of the Plague (1979), and Eréndira (1983). He died on April 17, 2014 in Mexico City, Mexico.
