He is a Tunisian writer, actor, and theatrical director. He took over the management of the Tunisian National Theater between 1988 and 2011. His artistic career began in 1961 when he started as an amateur comedian and then became a professional. He taught in Tunis and Paris. In 2005, he founded the National Center for Circus Art. Among his most prominent works as a theatrical director are: Ismail Pasha (1986), Long Live Shakespeare (1988), and The Opportunists (2005).
