A Canadian novelist, poet, literary critic, feminist, and social activist, born on November 18, 1939. She is the recipient of the Arthur C. Clarke Award as well as numerous official awards and honors from Canada. She also is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She was a finalist for the Booker Prize five times, winning it once. In addition to her novels which brought her wide fame, Atwood has published several poetry collections.
