A French writer, born in Bordeaux, France. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1952. He was the father of Claude Mauriac and the grandfather of Pierre Wiazemsky and Anne Wiazemsky. His credits include Les anges noirs, Le pain vivant, Therese, and Serpant's Skin. He died on September 1, 1970 in Paris, France.
