An American singer, dancer, actress, and model, born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 16, 1979, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. When she was ten, she appeared on the television show Star Search. Two years later, she signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. The latter introduced Aaliyah to R. Kelly, who served as the lead songwriter and producer on her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. Aaliyah collaborated with record producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott on her second album, One in a Million. She made her film debut in Romeo Must Die (2000). She released her third and final album, Aaliyah, in July 2001. On August 25, 2001, Aaliyah and eight others were killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas after filming the music video for the song Rock the Boat. She participated in the movie Queen of the Damned, her second movie after Romeo Must Die.
