A director, writer, and poet, born in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. He obtained a degree in English from Trinity College in Connecticut. He is the father of the actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. His works include Paris Trout (1991) and A Dangerous Woman (1993).
