Andrew Lesnie was an Australian cinematographer. He was born in 1956 in Sydney, Australia. He started his career in 1978 as an assistant camera operator on the film “Patrick” while he was still studying at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. His first work as a cinematographer was the 1983 film “Stations”, after which he further developed his craft until his big break came with the release of the film “Babe” (1995), which he photographed. He is best known for his work in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, for which he received an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for its second installment in 2002. He also served as cinematographer in The Hobbit Trilogy (2012-2014). He died of a heart attack in his Sydney home on the 27th of April, 2015.
