An American novelist, screenwriter, and poet, born in 1917. He worked as a journalist for The New Yorker and The Times, however, he then turned to film writing. His films include Sands of Iwo Jima, El Dorado, A Place in The Sun, and Ocean's Eleven. He died on November 2, 1986.
