An American actor, born in Chicago in 1957. His mother prevented him from practicing football while he was in high school. Upon graduating from high school, he attended community college and got a job digging ditches for Peoples Gas Company. He later headed to Hollywood, where he began his acting career playing several small roles, after which he landed a role in Michael Bay's Armageddon (1998), which resulted in his getting her most notable role in The Green Mile (1999), which earned him several awards and nominations, including an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Thereafter, he appeared in several big-budget films. He died of a sudden heart attack in 2012.
