An Austrian-American director, producer, and screenwriter, born on June 22, 1906, in Sucha, Austria-Hungary. His parents owned a cake shop in Sucha's train station that was successful and turned into a chain of railroad cafes. Thereafter, the Wilder family moved to the capital of the Austrian Empire, Vienna, where Billy turned to journalism then moved to Berlin in 1926. After the rise of Adolf Hitler to power in 1933, he emigrated to Paris and then America. His most notable films include Sunset Blvd. (1950), Sabrina (1954), Some Like It Hot (1959), and The Apartment (1960).
