A Maltese-Canadian director and writer, born in Malta. He was educated at St. Aloysius College and the University of Malta. In 1971, while still a university student, he directed the film Il-Gaġġa, based on Frans Sammut's novel Il-Gaġġa, and then left his native country for Canada after a struggle with local censorship. His most notable works include Backstage (2016), Time Tremors (2013), ZOS: Zone of Separation (2009), Stargate: Atlantis (2004), The Wives He Forgot (2006), and Lies and Crimes (2007).
