An Italian director, born in Tuscany, Italy. He began his career in journalism before collaborating with his brother Paolo to initially make documentaries together before turning to the silver screen. Their collaboration resulted in more than twenty films over more than fifty years. They made some of the most famous films of Italian cinema in the post-war period, such as Padre Padrone, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1977. The film Caesar Must Die by the Taviani brothers also won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival in 2012.
