A French actress, screenwriter, and director, born on May 10, 1944, in Dalat, Vietnam, where her father worked. She moved with her family to Paris when she was 12 years old. She studied at Paris University, earning degrees in law and political science. In 1962, she was discovered by director François Truffaut, who assigned her the lead role in Antoine and Colette, a segment from the anthology film Love at Twenty. She was a political activist and an advocate for women's rights. She also participated in the student demonstrations in 1968. Her notable work includes Celine and Julie Go Boating (1974), Cousin cousine (1975), and Chanel Solitaire (1981). She was married twice and had three children. She died in a tragic swimming pool accident on April 24, 2011.
